CAPE TOWN SUMMER - Places you need to see!

We spent a large portion of our Summer Holiday in and around Cape Town. If you follow us on Instagram you might recognize some of the places in our video below!
We decided that we'd love to share these beautiful places with you too! We have created a mini travel guide so you can find all our favourite spots too!
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO WHEN IN  CAPE TOWN
  • Clifton Beaches - Clifton has the most beautiful white sand beaches. With lots of rocks to shelter yourself from the harsh sun in summer. We'd definitely recommend going on a weekday if you can! They can get super busy on the weekend.
  • Twelve Apostles Hotel for sunset - Although the main attraction is to watch the sun go down from the Leopard Bar balcony, we always make sure to there a bit early. Aim to arrive about an hour before sunset and look for a pathway at the back of the hotel. You will find yourself immersed in, you guessed it, the Twelve Apostles mountains, with awesome views of the sea and Lion’s Head. After your walk head up to the bar for the live music that they have every evening. As well as the most amazing free bar snacks!
  • Sunset Rock - This must be one of the most beautiful sunset spots in existence! If you're from South Africa you will know that South African's love their sundowners! (We were shocked to find out that this isn't something that happens all over the world!) We don't go a day without having sundowners so we're always on the lookout for the ultimate spot. Sunset rock has incredible views of Lion’s Head, the Clifton beaches and the 12 Apostles. (This is the spot that's the thumbnail for our video above.) Sip your wine, watch the sun go down and make sure to wait until it starts to get dark. This is when the real magic happens. The valley is lit up with millions of tiny lights while the last bit of sunshine still lingers in the air. It's a sight you do not want to miss!

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO WHEN IN  WILDERNESS/SEDGEFIELD
  • If you're into coffee like us, you've got to try Pause Coffee Roastery in Wilderness. It has perfect flat whites, beautiful plant decor and tasty cakes! It's situated in a place called Timberland, which is a community of quaint shops and nurseries.
  • After your coffee head off to Wilderness National Park for the famous Pied Kingfisher trail. We'd also recommend doing this walk in the off peak season if you can. You start off in a beautiful forest, following the river, you then reach a crossing which you get do by a pont. Eventually you end up at the most incredible destination. Two waterfalls with huge natural pools to swim in! Bring a picnic lunch to eat after your swim!
  • If you happen to be in Sedgefield on Saturday you have to go and visit the Wild Oats Market! It’s got everything you can dream of and an awesome atmosphere! We were very impressed with the variety of stalls and the quality of everything.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO WHEN IN  KNYSNA
  • If you can't afford to stay on Thesen Island, like us and most people, rent a canoe from one of the places on the Knynsa Lagoon. Canoe all the way to Thesen Islands and then go into the canals. You will feel like you’ve been transported to Venice! There are no roads, only hundreds on little canals connecting the houses that you can canoe through.
  • Take a trip to the Knysna Forest. We’d recommend bringing a picnic or some braai food as well! They have lovely benches and braai areas for you to have lunch before your walk. After lunch take one of the trails through the forest. It is truly magical, with little streams contrasting massive trees!
  • Rent an electric bicycle. This isn’t in our video because we decided not to bring the camera, but I wish we had! There is a reasonably cheap place to rent them on Thesen Island. (Message us if you want more details). Electric cycling is the perfect way to see Knysna! We were surprised by how fast they could go and how long the battery lasted! We recommend taking them from Thesen Island and cycling to Leisure Island. You can cycle the quiet roads through the island while seeing the best views of Knysna Lagoon and the Knysna Heads. Before heading back we’d suggest cycling up to Knysna Heads. Stop for a quick drink and then cycle back to Thessen Islands.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO WHEN IN PLETTENSBERG
  • If you’re looking for a warmer sea with the mountain views, then Plett is where you need to go! After coming from Cape Town we were shocked with how warm the sea was here! Almost as warm as Durban. Although, what we loved even more were the views! A magnificent mountain backdrop outlines the still aqua sea! It will definitely be a swim to remember.
  • Go for lunch or a drink at Beacon Isles. They have the best view in Plett since they are literately situated in the sea!
  • Robberg - If you follow us on Instagram you might have noticed that quite a few of our photos have the Robberg location tag, and for good reason! If you like taking photos, or just like really good views, you’ve got to do the Robberg trail! One tip - don’t go after rain or on a very hot day, you might find yourself running more than you planned.. The pathway can get covered in thousands of biting ants! Explaining what you’ll get to experience on the walk will take a page, so instead, here are some photos that try to encapsulate the sheer beauty.
